Cultural history
Cultural events started to happen in the late 19th century on Sitío Guaramiranga. It all started with poetry weekends among family and friends. Many famous writers and poets came to be inspired by the beauty of region. Over the last decades the Serra became popular with the rich of Fortaleza. Many bought their weekend homes here. The last 3 governors of Ceará also own a sitío in the Serra. This new occupation of the region led to a revival of the cultural history of Sitío Guaramiranga. Many cultural Festivals were introduced. Guaramiranga has now two theatres and an open air podium on the main square of the village.
The festival
The Guaramiranga Jazz & Blues festival is reasonable new to the Serra. The Festival started in 2000 as being a local Cearense festival. Now it brings various top artists from all around Brazil and also more and more international artists are playing on the event. It is a great atmosphere in the mountains of the Serra. The square lushes of live and Latin jazz & blues lovers from everywhere flock the small town of Guaramiranga. The pousadas are packed with people that travel to here to see this festival. It is a wonderful happening and the best alternative Carnaval in Brazil.
