Text Box: Brazil is popular with European governments. Germany has put Brazil on number One for best foreign investment opportunity for 2006. The UK has paced Brazil on the fourth place. In January the Dutch minister for Agriculture, Mr. Deetman, concluded that Brazil is the Agricultural Superpower of the 21st century. This was during a formal presentation of a report on Brazilian agriculture. The five most favoured countries in Latin America host on average 62 TNCs. This figure is 58 for Asia but only 27 for Africa and 24 for South-Eastern Europe/CIS.

How long can I stay?

Anyone can stay 3 months. This period can be extended to 6 months during a period of 12 months. If you want to stay longer you need to apply for a visa. We help you with this.

 

Portuguese or ...?

Most Cearense don’t speak any other language than Portuguese. Most countries around the world offer Portuguese language courses. If you get one make sure it is Brazilian Portuguese. And if you don’t find anyone who speaks English, don’t worry our staff does.

Is there enough water?

The last occurence of insufficient water was in the late 18th century where there occurred two decennia of draught. Ceara has a perfect average of 1,000 mm of rainfall. Ceara is a green state, perfect for agricultural purposes. The government now even has an assurance for farmers on timely rain fall costing as little as 5 Real (!) per month. This seams superfluous.

Need an international driving licence?

Formally you do by law and you can get a ticket for not having one. In practice however the police lets you drive as long as your driving licence contains information in Portuguese. Your EU licence does! Show it this to the police officer, he usually accepts.

The Brazilian currency remains strong against the Euro and the Dollar. The Government has intervened in December and in January. The rate against the Euro seams to stabilize between 2.60 and 2.80. Will the Government intervene again when the Real is as strong as 2.60 against the Euro?
Text Box: Currency Text Box: Tourism STATISTICS Tourism is growing above expectation. Tourism in January 2006 shows an increase of +12%. Ceará is now one of the fastest growing touristic areas in the world. With the construction of Golf courses such as in Cumbuco, we expect that the growth will continue. The rate might even increase to +15% or higher. This where in Europe tourism slows down. Spain +3%, Portugal –1% and Italy –6% (WTO figures 2005 vs 2004), It looks like a shift in interest of European visitors.
